Lake Taupo Challenge 27th November 2010 entries now open

The Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge is New Zealand’s premier cycling event – a total of 12 different cycling events based around Lake Taupo.

There is an event for every level of rider – a challenging but achievable 160 kilometre ride for individual riders or teams of two, three or four can participate in the team event, which is an achievable goal for new or less experienced riders.

Cycle Challenge is also the leading provider of endurance cycling events in New Zealand. Mountain bikers enjoy riding New Zealand’s best trails in the Contact Huka MTB event. Licensed riders compete for cash prizes in the Avanti Men’s Classic and WorkoutZone Women’s road races and in the Contact Huka XL MTB race.

A fantastic array of spot prizes including a brand new Skoda adds to the excitement of the event. Owned and organised by the Rotary Club of Taupo Moana and a dedicated committee, Cycle Challenge returns its proceeds to the local community. It is also part of the UCI Golden Bike Series.

Enter Cycle Challenge before October 1 and be in the draw to win a prize pack valued at $500

All entrants will receive a FREE hydration backpack from Contact and Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge valued at $50!!!

Downhill Racing Tauranga

Interesting excerpt from a tourist website about Tauranga….

The lovely Tauranga is located at the head of a large harbour which extends along the western Bay of Plenty, The town of Mount Maunganui stands at the entrance to the harbour, five kilometres north of Tauranga. "The Mount", as it is known, is often regarded as a satellite town of Tauranga, although it is technically a suburb. Its is one of the major resort cities in New Zealand, famous for its beautiful beaches.

Due to its sheltered position on the east coast, Tauranga enjoys a warm, dry climate. This has made it a popular location to retire to. During the summer months the population swells as the holidaymakers descend on the city.

Much of the countryside surrounding Tauranga is horticultural, used to grow a wide range of fresh produce. The area is known for growing tangelos and kiwifruit. The Port of Tauranga also experiences brisk but seasonal shipping traffic and is a regular stop off for both container ships and luxury cruise liners.

In the sporting area Tauranga boasts one of the finest downhill tracks in NZ, if you have a downhill bike and some spare time and want some fun, you should in fact go there for a ride, in fact forget about the rest of Tauranga and its tourism, and just go down to do downhill because that’s where the action is! especially as Tim Lawton and his team have spent loads of time building a top class DH track for you, in fact this weekend there is a downhill race on there, so see you there…

Sunday August 29 • 8:30am - 5:30pm
